That is normally the polite way of saying "he tore it, but we don't want to say that", but sometimes UCL strains are just that and do not require Tommy John. Kyle Bradish of the Orioles had a UCL strain this spring and was shut down for a few weeks, but now he's back and is pitching very well (2-0, 2.62 ERA, 49 K in 34 innings). So if that's all Sdao has and he has eight months to rest it, he could be ready to go for the start of next year.
