S&R Best game system for 8 year olds

Ive got twin 8 year old boys that want a gaming system for their birthday. So far only have wii. I've heard new Xbox might not be worth the money and to just get Xbox 360. Wifey wants Connect as part to keep them somewhat active. Thoughts? I never play video games so I have no clue. Thx
