Ok, starting with A&M getting absolutely screwed on the punt return fumble. Those officials should be fired. They won't even be talked to. The SEC is a great conference except for the officiating. Their officials are a damned joke.
Before tonight, Jalen Preston's last touchdown pass was thrown by Nick Starkel. And it was on the first catch of his career. He's been the only consistent wideout the past two months. And yeah, that includes AInias.
Jalen Preston: 4 catches. Not good enough.
I don't even know how you make an argument for Zach Calzada now. If he's pressured, or imagines he's pressured, he flees. He refuses to take zip off short passes. He stares down receivers. He takes sacks when he absolutely can't. It should be Haynes King for the bowl game and either King or Conner Weigman in 2022. I appreciate Calzada's guts, but he's inconsistent mentally and physically.
54 yards rushing. No. Not good enough. Devon Achane getting one touch in the fourth quarter. NO. Not good enough.
LSU got four sacks. None of them were real. They were all on Calzada. Not to say the line was good tonight, because they weren't, but that was not on them.
Micheal Clemons had a great game, but it won't help his draft status. He annihilated a true freshman. But the spin moves were impressive all the same.
I still don't understand how the team wasn't ready for the emotional onslaught that LSU was certain to hit them with. Instead they looked slow and almost disinterested for a half.
Why this team takes a half to wake up is beyond me.
I'm a huge Jaylon Jones fan, but I'd have someone ready to push him (Brian George?) from the first day of spring practice.
1.9 YPC. Ridiculous.
Enough's enough with the wideouts. There's too many drops, they get beaten up too easily and their route running is questionable. I'm not much for calling for coaching changes, but it's the same song from different singers. At some point, you blame the directors.
I never thought this team would finish 8-4 in August. But everything went out the window the instant King got hurt. The offense was clearly build around his abilities, "close competition" or not. And it went up in flames in the first quarter of game 2. There's a lot to be pleased with, but that's four losses with the same refrain: bad playcalls, going away from your strengths, 30 minutes or more of confused, disjointed football with letdowns at the end. That's on Jimbo and his coaches.
This team is on an upward trajectory and anyone who can't see that is a fool. This recruiting class, should it stay together (and there's no indication it won't), can help move this program to the next level. But Jimbo needs to have a serious discussion with himself and recognize that the players aren't the only ones who can improve.
