IMHO, Arkansas is a big, strong, capable, and well coached ball club. 1,649 pounds of line - the largest in all football in all America - one which is filled with talented athletes, is a major factor in making them so. Thanks to their HC, they have adopted a B1G style of football that eventually will make some noise in the SEC - in point of fact, it should have already except for their tendency to make mistakes at critical times.
They had a perfect game plan suited to their style and inimical of ours - they used their very good and powerful rushing game on their O and the clock as a major component of their D, keeping our O off the field, and thanks to good scouting, their D squad itself was pretty salty.
BUT, we finessed them into making critical mistakes, which we took advantage of, and which got us the win. Good on our ball club, our coaching staff, and because of the noise they created causing confusion amongst the pigs, the 12 MAN.
Now that Arkansas is behind us, are we ready to take control of the SEC West? Only if we can do the same against the rest of our SEC opponents, all of whom run the ball with big strong backs, one of whom is a Heisman candidate, and have SEC style Ds - swarming.
We have no RBs in depth, and both our lines are weaker this year, and while improved, our D secondary is a piece of work in progress, particularly the LBs.
So, we gotta stay with the finesse style game planning, tailored to each opponent, force mistakes, and capitalize on those mistakes. If we do that well, we have a shot at the West, but in any event, we should have a better season than last year.
