I know this episode is about two years old, but I just saw it last night. I grew up in Houston and was a diehard Oiler fan, but never lived there after graduating from A&M in '82...so, most of this stuff wasn't really that well known.
The Buddy Ryan / Kevin Gilbride sideline fight was well publicized, but the lead-up to it was crazy. I thought it was just a momentary blowup, but this stuff started the day Ryan was hired. Basically came in a said, "I don't answer to anyone". Pardee was so laid back, and didn't want to make waves because the entire team chemistry was already so messed up.
This was the season right after the playoff collapse in Buffalo.
Bud Adams was already threatening to move.
Adams also told the team in a meeting that this was their last chance. The salary cap was starting the next year and he told them, "most of you wont be here next year"...that's effed up to drop that right in the middle of the season.
Jeff Alm shot and killed himself on the scene of a DUI accident that killed a friend of his.
The Ryan-Gilbride thing caused fights every day in practice. They interviewed Ray Childress and he sounded like he was still pissed at Mike Munchak.
And it ended with the annual playoff collapse. This time it was against Montana, Marcus Allen, and the Chiefs.
