In the last 2 drafts, Texas had 23 players drafted - we’ve had 7. And only 3 of our 7 weren’t defensive lineman. Texas had players drafted from every position on both sides of the ball.
Not only this, but we have draft prospects going backwards - Scourton was a projected top 15 pick in preseason mocks. Our 3 draft picks were all DL yet we finished in the bottom quarter of the SEC in team sacks. So disheartening given Elko is a defensive coach. That’s 100% on him.
I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but given our resources and location in the biggest football state in the country, it’s mind boggling as to our inability to consistently identify and develop talent that NFL scouts deem worthy of drafting. The gulf between our program and Texas is enormous right now.
