Bought my first house about a year ago. It has a cooktop installed on an island that has a downdraft exhaust fan. Always thought the fan was broken because it felt like air was being blown back into the house instead of out. The home warranty company checked it out and stated the fan is fine so there must be an issue with the duct work that runs underneath the kitchen floor. When I started messing with it I found that the duct work has no out, whoever built the house forgot to cut a hole in the wall to let the exhaust air out. I have been told I need a handyman for this. What do the AY experts say?
