Don't know if many of you are familiar with the work of Mike Griffith. He is a sportswriter/personality who generally follows Tennessee sports. He was on Finebaum yesterday. I have seen him on the show
before when he has been much better than he was yesterday but yesterday he was beyond bad.
He trashed A&M and our "meaningless" win over Alabama. He pontificated that we should have been better prepared to handle the injuries we had incurred and that we were still the best example of
an underperforming team in the SEC as our two losses leading up to the Alabama game rendered that win "meaningless". His word.
I don't disagree completely with his statement about our needing to be better prepared to withstand injury. I think it took to many games for Calzada to get up to speed but I also believe that Mike Elko
contributed heavily to our Mississippi state loss so not all of the blame goes to the offense. I do take exception to his statement that our win over the number 1 team in the nation was meaningless. How can
that type of win be meaningless when wins like that help recruiting and, in our case, kept our season for going down the toilet.
I wonder if his beloved Vols were to upset Alabama this weekend if he would term the win as " meaningless". It was a Jackass statemnent .
But he didn't stop there. He had the gall to blame last weeks fan misbehavior at the Tennessee -Ole Miss game on Lane Kiffen. I laughed as even Finebaum had to step in and call
him on this one. Hell Kiffen has coached there in over 10 years. A great example of a university and its supporters dodging responsibility for an embarrassing event on their home field and in this case,
a lame attempt to place blame elsewhere.
I guess i am writing this because it amazes me that apparently competent sports people can turn on a dime and show themselves to be complete idiots.
I also believe that his comments regarding A&M show what I continue to believe is a deep seated fear of A&M and an effort on old school SEC people to try to keep us down as long as absolutely
possible.
thanks for letting me vent!
