The UF men's basketball, women's basketball and softball programs have
been publicly recognized by the NCAA for their outstanding academic
performance, with Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10%
Nationally within their sport. Florida's men's and women's basketball teams
were the only SEC team in their sport to be honored, while the UF softball
team was one of only two recognized (Tennessee) in the conference.
This recognition adds to already impressive academic accomplishments by
those programs. The men's and women's basketball teams placed a combined
13 players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll this season, including an SEC
record 8 on the men's side. There will be 49 Gator Student/Athletes in the
coming UF commencement, and the Gator's placed a total of 59 on the
SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll.

Due to O'Sullivan sending so many Gators to MLB, UF has 15 Fr on the team,
so it took the a few weeks into the season to get it going. And still, the Yankees
can lose to the Cubs occasionally....

Still, losing to another Top 25 ranked team like Mercer is no big deal. Certainly
not as embarrassing as losing to a crappy unranked aTm, even though that was
in aTm's house, and by only 1 run in each of those 2 losses.
It took a while for that very young Gator team to begin playing up to their potential.
And they can still lose in mid-week games while working on their consistency in
both the classroom, and on the field. But I'm pretty happy with them so far.

in basketball. There, it's the season record and ranking that matters.
Tuesday night in G'ville, UF downs USF 8-2. #8 UF is now 34-18, 19-8 SEC.
The Gator's at home vs SEC this season were 12-3, (without the 12 sissies).

(UF, #2 aTm, #3 Ark, #6 UGa, #9 LSU, & #10 UA) as well as 5 of the

UF will play ALC rival, 5 seed NW, to see who will advance. NW is already a 7x
NCAA Lacrosse Champion btw. However, the Gators are in the midst of a ten
game winning streak, capped by a 19-9, weather-delayed home win over Denver
on Sunday in which Tewaaraton Award finalist Shannon Gilroy became the
1st player in UF history to score more than 100 points (103) in a single season.

"Triple Crown" category -- .317 batting average, 42 RBI and five homers.
Gator Mike Zunino (now with the Seattle Mariners) won the award in 2012.
The Gators enter the final 3-game series vs Tenn. holding a two-game lead over
No. 14 Ole Miss overall and a three-game edge over No. 8 South Carolina and
No. 9 Vanderbilt in the Eastern Division. The Gators set a new UF Record with
a 12 game SEC win streak, before finally losing to VU last weekend.
The Gators have already clinched at least a share of the SECe with 19 league wins,
one more victory will nail down the program's and SEC's best, 22nd divisional flag outright.
If the Gators can close it out winning at Tenn, Gator coach Kevin O'Sullivan will have his
3rd SEC-C in his 7 years as the Gator coach.

Saturday 5-17-2014 Update: (UF is currently losing 5-7 in the 8th today)
* With 15 freshmen on this team, they should be pretty good next year too...
~ The very young Gator's only have 3 seniors on the team.
~ UF is 14-6 (.700) in one-run games this season, the most wins in the nation in that
category.
~ UF is also 14-8 (.700) against ranked opponents this season,
the most top-25 wins in the SEC.
