It was a totally different era with limited education and communication. People did not buck the establishment and the depression had taken a toll on people. Nationalism was very different that it is today. The Nazi slowly took control of society and eliminated those who opposed them. As someone said, they were willing and did horrible acts against anyone including their own people.
