I came across the video below on YouTube last weekend. You don’t need to watch the first 7:30 of it. He shows how to make clear ice in a Yeti-style cup.
I tried it the first time in a perfectly cylindrical cup and it was crazy hard to get out. So I tried again in a tapered cup like he uses in the video, and it was much easier. Like in the video, I used a knife to help pry it out. So after it sat out for about 35 minutes, I put a kitchen knife between the ice and the cup and sort of pried it out just a little to get some air into the liquid water below the ice. After that it came out fairly easily.
As you might imagine, the ice is shaped like a hockey puck, which probably isn’t ideal, but it is absolutely perfectly clear.
