Texas A&M Men’s Basketball
Kennedy, House & Jones Honored as All-District by USBWA
ST. LOUIS (USBWA) – Texas A&M men’s basketball received three honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Tuesday as Billy Kennedy was named District VII Coach of the Year while Danuel House and Jalen Jones were named to the All-District VII Team.
For Kennedy, the honor is another in a banner day that saw the fifth-year Aggie coach named by his peers as 2016 SEC Coach of the Year. The New Orleans native has received district coach of the year honors three previous times in his 18-year head coaching career, garnering NABC District 19 Coach of the Year accolades in 2010 while working the sidelines at Murray State and NABC District 8 Coach of the Year recognition in both 2004 and 2005 during his tenure at Southeastern Louisiana.
A First-Team All-SEC selection, Jones stands out as one of the league’s most consistent performers this season, ranking among the conference leaders by averaging 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during SEC play. Overall this season, Jones has contributed four double-doubles and scored 20 or more points in 11 games.
House, who was also named as an All-SEC selection for a second straight season Tuesday, averages 15.3 points per outing this season, shooting 40.1 percent from the floor while compiling 71 assists, 18 steals and seven blocked shots.
The trio of Aggies becomes the first to garner USBWA All-District Team recognition since Elston Turner in 2013.
