So NIL collectives are not allowed to “pay for play”. Good rule. Appropriate, imo.
So I have twin boys in high school. If someone were to put a pool of money together to give to them for their “Name, Image and Likeness” (whatever TF that actually means anymore) can they not accept it? They’re 18 years old and they have no plans to play a sport in college, but NIL collectives aren’t associated with colleges anyway, right?
The reason I ask is I just saw a mention of visitors coming in town for a recruiting weekend. Is there a reason that an NIL collective can’t have those that are 18 years old (or their guardians if not) sign a contract to receive money from the collective for the next two years? If they can’t, why not? If they can, why is no one doing it? If they couldn’t before but they can now, why was it limited before?
