We all know it’s a shit-show but nobody really seems to know what to do to fix it or maybe even want to fix it.
But what would you do?
For me:
- NIL deals are directly connected to schools and directed by the schools
- NIL deals can effectively restrict transfers (ex- someone like Nolen signs a 3-year NIL deal then he’s here for 3 years regardless of whether or not he wants to go elsewhere)
- reinstate the 1-year of sitting out to transfer except for graduate transfers
- scholarships are for 4 years except in the cases of academic or disciplinary reasons
- if players want to unionize that’s fine but then they have to submit to collective bargaining similar to pro leagues with salary caps, restrictions on free agency (ie- transfer portal), disciplinary clauses & processes (if they want to be treated as professionals then they have to behave like them)
It’s an imperfect and incomplete list and I’m sure there are some unintended consequences that would arise but these are some things I think would help bring some order.
