I know, you are probably mystified by the thread title, thinking to yourself "but Beer Donkey, I value your insight and opinions and you're never wrong." Well, allow me to explain.
I have consistently pushed for a tougher non-conf schedule for the Ags. I have also bitched and moaned like a cat giving birth about the unbelievable shittiness of our last dozen or so chosen opponents.
One of my supporting arguments was that if we end up as a one loss SEC team but don't win the conference, we would need a tougher SOS to be a second SEC team selected by a playoff committee. After watching the first season of the CFP, it seems fairly obvious the committee is going to be pressured into selecting teams from across the country. I think it will be an extremely rare case that any conference gets more than one team into the playoff in a single year. This will likely hold true for as long as the playoff remains at four teams. So, if your singular focus in scheduling is to maximize the chances of a national title, get Art Briles and Bill Snyder on the line and ask them just exactly how to find the softest games around. Check that, no need, we are already damn good at finding and scheduling the Sisters of the Poor ourselves.
Sometimes we Brother Ags need to recognize when we have erred, and remain open to changing our opinions based upon new information.
