Why do I feel like LSU is out hustling us in recruiting at every turn?

Houston (Tex.) Elsik linebacker Dontavious Jackson said his offer from LSU last week is one he's been waiting for.

Next step for Jackson is a visit to the LSU campus
He's been waiting for it for a while, too.

"LSU's been recruiting me really, really hard," the 6-foot-2, 238-pound four-star told TigerBait.com. "It's an offer that was long-awaited. I've been waiting on it for a long, long time. It's one of my top schools and I'm very interested in them."

Jackson isn't put off by how long it took LSU to offer. He appreciates and respects their process.

Ranked the No. 9 inside linebacker nationally, Jackson also has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA among many others. His interest in LSU is more than just surface-level preference for a football team.

"First off, I have family in Louisiana, so I can be close to my family if I go to that school," Jackson said. "It's a great school for academics. It's a great school for academics and it's a great football program."

They've also offered one of his friends and some players in the area that he's familiar with.

"They offered Jeffrey McCulloch, one of my friends from Aldine Davis," Jackson said. "They've offered Jordan Elliott and Eric Monroe. Me and Jeffrey are pretty close. We met through competition. Our freshman year we met through competition, playing against each other, and since then we've been really cool. He's visited (LSU) a couple of times and he says he loves it."

Jackson is taking McCulloch's word for it for now. The two players may or may not end up at the same school, but McCulloch's endorsement, as well as LSU's offer, is one main reason Jackson's ready to visit Baton Rouge.

"I haven't visited yet," he said. "I've planned a couple of visits there but all of them have been canceled because of inconveniences. I do plan on getting up there soon, though."

He might find the logistics easier to manage now that he's got the offer.
