That was a typical Texas A&M first half in the a big game. They came out flat and intimidated and have not matched the moment.

Conner Weigman has flat out stunk. There’s no other way to put it. He’s 5-14 for 49 yards and he’s not missing by a little, he’s missing by a lot. And I don’t mean with his passes, I mean with his judgments. He’s had guys running free in the secondary and hasn’t seen them or hasn’t had the guts to throw the ball. When he has opportunities to run, he hasn’t. He looks very conservative and rattled. He’s right on line with his Notre Dame performance. He had one good drive and A&M scored. Otherwise, he’s been terrible.

The running game has been pretty good. A&M has 98 yards rushing at 4.5 yards a clip. Le’Veon Moss shook off his fumble to break off a few big runs, running over Jardin Gilbert twice in the process. Moss has 54 yards and a touchdown, while Amari Daniels has 38 yards on 7 carries.

The offensive line has not been good in pass protection at all. Kam Dewberry hadn’t given up a pressure all season to this point, and he’s been beaten up badly. Trey Zuhn gave up a sack on Weigman’s first drop back. Ar’Maj Reed-Adams was talking all kinds of crap and has two penalties for 20 yards, including a personal foul that led directly to an LSU touchdown.

The defense has been horrible in the tackling department. Dalton Brooks missed a tackle that led to a 76-yard touchdown pass and several other missed tackles led to huge gains. Garrett Nussmeier has already thrown for 259 yards, with 175 of those yards coming after the catch. That tells you immediately A&M’s playing way too far off and not tackling well.

The defensive front has gotten some pressure on Nussmeier, even if he hasn’t been sacked. But he’s done a great job stepping up in the pocket, eluding pressure and keeping his eyes downfield — things Weigman is not doing. The Aggie secondary has broken up some potential touchdowns, but they’ve been really soft in short and intermediate routes and that’s what’s killing them.

LSU’s rushing game has been non-existent. They have 24 yards on 11 carries and had 6 carries for 2 yards in the second quarter. But if you can’t rattle Nussmeier, it’s not going to matter. They’re going to throw all day.

A&M gets the ball to start the third quarter and they have to do something with it. If Reed-Adams and the line are going to talk crap, they’d better back it up. They need to get Moss going again and go right at LSU. Maybe Weigman can do something off of playaction if his head is screwed back on right.

But so far, this is just another example of A&M laying an egg in a game that could be trajectory-altering.
