We are now at the mid-point of the season and wanted to see how everyone is liking it so far....WARNING, there may be minor spoilers in this thread, but I won't reveal anything that hasn't been presented on the show.
It looks like the action is about to take off, though, the end of 'Sons of Harpy' episode was fantastic, and we lose the 2nd character on the show that is not dead in the books...3 more to go. I have my guesses but am hoping they don't come to fruition.
I am really liking the Sansa storyline and how they diverted from the books. Her story about keeping the sickly Robin company in the books was beyond boring and I would skim through her chapters. I guess the producers felt the same way. The Bolton dinner scene was awesome. It starts with Sansa being nervous that she is marrying a more sadistic Joffrey, the awkwardness of Theon/Reek serving more wine, to her giving a little smirk when the table finds out that Ramsey's stake to lead the House of Bolton may have gone up in flames with the announcement of Roose's future legitimate child.
It will be interesting to see what role Brienne is going to play when all hell breaks loose during the Stannis/Bolton war coming up. Is she going to be able to rescue Sansa?? With Stannis coming to Winterfell, will she get her revenge for his 'shadow' murdering King Renly? I don't think it was an accident that she told Pod her upbringing and that Renly was the only man to show her compassion and could see her desire to be an actual knight. At this point, Brienne is probably the best sword fighter in Westeros (took down the Hound, went toe-to-toe with a two-handed Jaime Lannister) and I doubt they will let her skills go to waste sitting in a room overlooking castle Winterfell.
The other big diversion from the book is the Tyrion storyline. Man, I really like Peter Dinklage's acting. He plays a great Tyrion. I do like the fact that they are fast tracking his trip to Mereen. It looks like they did cut out the other characters that he meets on his journey and it looks like Sir Mormont is taking on the grey scales that one of these new characters receives on the journey. With the first scene of episode 5, we see Maester Ammon discussing the events of Queen Dany and how she is all alone with no guidance. Does this open up the possibility that Tyrion could be her Hand and counselor? With grey scales, does Mormont fight in the pits with nothing to lose to prove his worthiness to Dany and take on his previous role?
Final piece I will hit on in my initial post. It looks like the producers are really starting to put nuggets out there about who is John Snow's parents. To those who have not read the books, it still has not bee revealed thru book five, so all these little nugs are great. Littlefinger talking to Sansa in the Stark tomb about Rhaegar and Lyanna...Barristan talking about Rhaegar as a joyful boy (getting two different looks at who Rhaegar actually was)...I even think the Maester Ammon scene yesterday about " a Targaryian alone in the world is a dangerous thing..." has something to do with it. Does he know the real parents of John Snow? But that could also be in reference to Tyrion, as one of the theories out there is that Tyrion is also a Targaryian (again, nothing has been revealed in the book, this is all theory).
Season 5 plots have all been presented and re-enforced, now, time for trail of carnage to the finale...
