Let's be clear. My strict definition of who I may consider a "fish" is likely a little different than some. I have transfers on my list who were in other programs, who just didn't play as freshmen. I don't call those kids transfers. I call them fish.
  • Dezz Ricks - Ricks is a fish to me even though he spent a year at Bama. He barely played. He has prototypical size and speed. He lacks the experience but certainly has the coaching. It all depends on his willingness to take new coaching and hits his learning curve. Again, I don't believe anyone is just going to be handed a job. Listen, pay attention and work hard and he has good a chance as any other DB.
  • Kendall Jackson/Dealyn Evans - I know I'm being hopeful here, but we are still thin at DT. Just more bodies in the rotation will be a benefit and I think they can play a few spell snaps, even as a true fish. Rodas just isn't that big and all our ends are light, with the exception of Scourton and perhaps Stewart. Guys in the trenches just get beat up on both both sides of it. Besides, I really like how they are squatily built.
  • Ashton Bethel-Roman/Iziaiah Williams - If they catch on quick, these guys just aren't that far from playing...a lot. Coach Klein uses a lot of three TEs, but he also uses a lot of 4 WR spread, with a lot a jet motion, including jet sweeps and fakes and misdirection off it...and wait for it...deep shots. He'll also rotate in guys he trusts, but they have to be willing to do the dirty work. If that means chipping an end as a 170 lb WR, so be it. No disrespect to the guys on the depth chart in front of them. I think all of them will be ballers, but these two could make a push....
  • Solomon Williams - Bigger Edge, early enrollee that Moffitt has already had a chance to work with?! Yeah, we'll take that. WDE is really one of the positions I have questions on coming into the Spring. In my opinion, other than O Line, this position group has been criminally poorly coached more than any other we have (apologies to WR & CB) over recent years, and it has shown in the lack of development in kids like White and Sylla. I'm hoping that they, along with Williams, now get the coaching they deserve. Stewart is the Guy, but I would love to see these kids along with Howell and Kennedy generate the rush from the weakside we're all hoping for....
  • Jordan Lockhart - A big ask to have another true fish come through at LB again, but hey I'm not above begging. Lockhart certainly has the size and skills, comes from a big prep program. I think he's more of a Mike than Will, but who really knows at this point? Even so, York has to be spelled sometime and who do we really have in the pipeline behind him? Most of the other guys seem more fits at OLB. Regardless, I think he could he could surprise.
Blessed Friday Morning Gig'em to Everyone!!!
