On an unfortunate Aggie football day, this is my first Rivals post. Had to leave Texags after I realized there is no way Lucci can get Jimbo's probe out of his throat, eventhough the majority of other Texags employees are solid and shoot straight.
I don't want to sound dramatic but I acutally wonder if today is a "program changing" loss. Odds are we don't run the table the rest of the season with Ole Miss and LSU still to play. Outside of Mississippi State and Abilene Christian, the rest are toss ups at best. We likely are 7-5 or 8-4. If Bama was usual Bama and LSU as as good as we thought they would be, those records would signal improvement from last year. Unfortunately, that is not the case and our program crapped our pants when we had the perfect opportunity to take the West.
Since the start of the 2018 season I can look back and make excuses why we weren't SEC West contenders at a minimum, but there is only one common denominator, our head coach.
Many Jimbo lovers will use Connor getting hurt as an excuse for the teams performance this year. I strongly disagree!! Max might not be as good as Connor and is certainly no Johnny, but he is damn sure good enough to lead us to an SEC championship with this years competition. Initially, I thought the Petrinio hire was crap, but after getting over my 2022 emotions I think it was actually (or thought) it was the right hire for Jimbo. I had my suspicions after last weekend but confirmed them after this game, Jimbo is still way too entirely involved in this offense. I hate to point to a TU coach as an example of what to do, but I genuinely belive Connor and Max are better than that P word they have playing QB and their line is over rated, yet when the offense sputters and Ewers gets pressured, they find ways to get the ball out of his hands quick (creative screens, roll outs, bootlegs, etc.) we barely saw any of that today. Just more long developing pass plays predicated on a crappy offensive line blocking enough for Max to get the ball out of his hands.
I have grown tired of Jimbos press conferences starting off with a recap of the game. NO SH*T sherlock, we all watched it, that''s why we're pissed!!! Then he comes out and says "we had a good game plan, we just didn't execute" FIne, whatever, What really bugs me in year 6 is after an egrious loss is "we gotta coach better". I appreciate him taking resposibility but when are you going to stop saying it and just do it!?!?
That sounded fine in your second game at A&M after we barely lost to eventual national champs Clemson, but it has grown to disgust me after the losses we've seen like today because it now comes off as disingenuous.
I don't have the money that many of our other Ags have to contribute, but in my opinion, if we genuinally want to win a natty, we have to move on. I'm ready to sell my soul for Kalen Deboer or Dan Lanning. I know Dan Lanning is getting crap for his 4th down attempts but he atleast had the balls to go for it on 4th down (with the Oregon kicker, not sure if those were bad decisions either). At least Lanning has the confidence in his plays to go for it on 4th down. Also any interview you see him in, you can tell he is committed to improvement and his voice is hoarse because he has been yelling all day (I'm talking weekday interviews). In my opinion, we money whip Lanning, He is only 37, and I would hate to have to deal with him for the next 2 decades at Bama, as many think he will take over for Saban once he retires.
Any who. Lanning is my number one choice and it is time to move on from JImbo. Sorry for the long post but had a lot to get off my chest regarding this program. Thanks and Gig Em.
