I found this data interesting. SIAP

CDC finds 299k more deaths in 2020 than expected, referred to as “excess deaths”. That’s more than documented Covid deaths.

Excess deaths are defined as the number of persons who have died from all causes, in excess of the expected number of deaths for a given place and time.

More covid deaths than we thought or people losing access to care for whatever reason?

Copied this definition from the CDC report in link above

“Excess deaths are defined as the number of persons who have died from all causes, in excess of the expected number of deaths for a given place and time.”

Point being that something has caused another 100k deaths or so since January, above and beyond the official Covid death count.

On a related note, I read an article about a guy in Childress who needed emergency abdominal surgery. He went to local ER, they tried to transfer him to a larger city hospital for the surgery (Lubbock, Amarillo, etc), but no hospital would accept the transfer. He died nine hours later. I’m not sure why the didn’t try DFW as I don’t think it’s completely full at this moment, but maybe I’m wrong. Anyway this might be example of how more people are dying as hospitals fill up. Heart attacks, car accidents, etc don’t stop just because of pandemic

Kinda of a worthless number attribute to random chance

When they have time to sort it out those will be drug overdoses, suicides, due to lockdowns and tanking the economy and then others due to people skipping on needed treatment and visits from their doctors due to fear of COVID.
