Doesn't get much better.
Leaving in the morning to head to Coleman for opening week of dove season. I've been going there for dove hunting since the early 70's when my father had a lease down on Elm Creek near Voss. I can remember like it was yesterday, sitting on my little bucket in the middle of the milo field listening to the Ags...listening on my little transistor radio to George Woodard tote the rock and dragging multiple defenders with him. Listening to Skip Walker or Bubba Bean taking the pitch in the wishbone and ripping off big runs. Many times I would pass on a shot at a dove because something big was happening in the game. Through that little radio, I could hear the roar of the 12th Man when Simonini or Robert Jackson would light up some poor opposing running back. Those were some great times for me as a kid...especially in the mid-70's.
It didn't stop with Bellard and the wishbone, nor did it stop after Jackie and Murray leading us to SWC Championships. Nope...here I am today, 40+ years later, still carrying on that tradition that my father got started with my brother and me. Due to the schedule, I won't be sitting in a field listening this year....no, I will already have bagged my limit Tues and Wed...heading back Thursday and try not to die of anxiety before Saturday.
Palomas, Gig'em and BTHO ASU!!!
