As some may know, I'm retiring and moving to woke-free Mexico in the next month or so. I just sold my house in Dallas area and am closing in early June. I have an 18 pound labradoodle dog that I want to bring to Mexico but am finding a bit of a challenge to get him down there. He is borderline able to fly with me on the flight but am worried they will say he's too big when I check in since he's right at the limit for AA to fly on my flight as a carry on dog.

Has anyone found a way to get their dog to Cancun area? Semi-Private flight? Specific airlines? Right now, I've learned that American will not take a dog direct from Dallas because they are Airbus only and dogs are not allowed. I'm willing to travel out of Houston or even fly through connecting cities if it's an option and have learned that Aeromexico may be an option since they can check the dog like a checked bag if they can't fly with me on the plane. I think this is the best option, but it's not a direct flight and not sure any potential issues so hoping Aggie network can help with any advice.
