Debate

Biden won easily. He had the most zingers. And was calm and tempered in his approach. And he wasn’t a sweaty pig melting behind the podium

apparently, snorting adderall makes you sweat and act like a dick.

not sure if it contributed to the gay vibe.

I was looking forward to watching, but had to turn it off - just couldn't watch. I'll listen to the follow up comments.

Neither won. Biden took no stance on anything. Court packing, Antifa. Calling in the NG to Portland. He punted on in. Trump should have stood back a little and let Biden hang himself, the rope was there. And on Swine flu, 14K deaths sure, but it wasn't airbourne and not as lethal because of it and the cases infected were 60million plus to the Covid 7 million. If it was apples to apples in deadliness Biden would lose millions. Could have been explained better.

Agreed. I think Trump came away with material to use in ads but I also think he lost an opportunity to win back some women and older voters who won’t like how he handled himself.

It’s exactly what trump does. He goes in and battles no matter what. If the rules screw your over screw the rules. It was pretty unseemly but he would never get to refute half the lies Joe was spewing. Wallace wasn’t calling anyone out. How does he get a pass on Hunter’s all of a sudden riches from the mayor or Moscow’s wife? Why didn’t Wallace let trump refute several bs claims that Biden was allowed to be said. It was total crap

and why didn’t he call trump on the carpet for his constant lying?

fear of carpet burns, i’d imagine.

usually people get pissed at people who lie to them, especially when it happens over and over again.

they start to figure they’re being used.

i guess if you just really want the lies to be true, you can pretend the person never said those things.

he’s not lying to you, though, just everyone else.

he would never lie to you.

it’s different between you and him.

you’re special, and he honestly cares about you.

you have a bond.

like when jesus comes into your heart, you know?

it’s hard to explain to people who aren’t on the inside.

you’re an important part of his plan.

it’s like being chosen or something.

like being part of an important, heroic mission.

The bottom line to me is that all Biden had in his bag was "Trump, bad man"... he didn't answer any policy questions and couldn't even address all the riots going on. Refused to even acknowledge Antifa (WTF?) and wouldn't even talk about his options for supreme court or discuss court packing. Biden is nothing more than a puppet.

Biden’s rehearsed line was supposed to be reassuring to the middle:
“Right now, I’m the Democratic Party”

but it was and is corny, if not outright cringeworthy.

Trump stepped all over Biden and drowned out most opportunities Joe had to stumble into a gaffe.

Trump essentially saved Biden from himself at times but filling in the silence.

also, Biden had some one liners that were well written but was bad on policy. Wouldn’t answer on the Court or filibuster. Said he doesn’t support the Green New Deal or Sanders’ policies despite the agreed document the two men’s’ campaigns put together and the Democratic platform. And when he said he is the Democratic Party but yet he had no duty to try and get elected Democratic officials to try and quell riots, I was a little shocked.

and Wallace did a bad job overall, though Trump would have been better served to just step back and let Wallace try to moderate because he had some tough questions for Biden.

This thread could have happened without a debate.....everybody is already so polarized that they had made up their minds how it would go before it ever happened.

Biden addressed the defunding police, rejected it, and stated he wanted better community policing (which I 100% agree with) and better social workers for calls, although he didn't specify. You don't want to bring a shrink to a bank robbery, but do at a domestic violence call. Probably lost Antifa with that even though he pretended they don't exist.

That was the only time I actually heard him "detail" a platform other than raising taxes with more loopholes so Trump can save that $750 next year.

In all though it felt like two grumpy ass old men fighting over the last cup of tapioca pudding.

The one thing I cannot for the life of me shake is every time Biden got stuck he pulled this stupid Hollywood bullshit of looking into the camera with his hands pointing at it saying "you, I'm doing *unintelligible* for you, go vote, you, you, you!" It was so condescending and fake and made him look like he was begging.

Trump came off as an arrogant bully, which we knew. Biden came off as a fake crybaby fear monger.

The part about taking a shrink on every police call made me shake my head. That can't be the plan or we need a ton more money and to train a ton more psychologists and psychiatrists.

And train them to shoot, otherwise we'll have a lot of dead ones.
Good point. Though I thought Biden was saying, we'll still send police with guns, but they'll have an MD/PhD riding shotgun, too.

I’m a director on the boards of two mid-cap companies (one in the US and one I chair in the U.K.). My thought, throughout the debate, was that none of my fellow directors would even think about hiring either of those bozos to be a CEO.

I read an article with analysis from a pollster, Luntz, who does focus groups for the networks. I think he was on CNBC, though I just read a recap. Had a group of undecideds and like others whose analysis I’ve seen, most thought no one won the debate and that it was pointless. Luntz’s takeaway is that it may have actually cause people to decide not to vote at all who aren’t sure who to vote for. In the end, not sure how that plays out. Especially if Biden’s enthusiasm gap stays out and also if some of his statements irked the Sanders wing.

Pretty good summary.

that is trump’s goal.

turn people off and suppress voter turnout.

it’s the only way he can win.

legitimately, i mean.

If Trump could just shut-up and spend 10 minutes rationally citing his achievements and backing those up with data, I think he could get traction with independent voters. He could cite the leveling of the corporate tax rate to make US firms competitive and tie that to job growth and the surge in the Dow and NASDAQ. He could cite criminal justice reform, dismantling ISIS, Israel peace treaty with UAE and Bahrain and soon with Sudan. He could point out that CO2 emissions in the US have actually dropped more than any other G2 signatories to the Paris Climate accords (I think that’s been confirmed). He could do so much more to persuade people if he prepped and acted like someone who was on top of the facts, rather than pursuing personal attacks and bullying the proceedings.
