Dear Mr. Bjork, Chancellor Sharp and everyone else involved in the decision making process:
Here is a common sense way to hire, retain, and incentivize a football coach with the amazing resources of our beloved Texas A&M. This incentive based plan would attract the very top tier of quality, proven coaches.
It will satisfy just about everyone involved and includes proven concepts from a lifetime of managing, compensating, and incentivizing employees and leaders.
First: define the characteristics you want in a coach. PLEASE include the following:
- must have had success across at least two QB cycles, with QB's that he recruited.
- must have the proven ability to recruit, hire, and manage high quality assistant coaches. Not even the best coach can do it themselves.
BASE PAY:
- Base salary: $5,000,000 per year. Guaranteed for four years. The guarantee would extend one year after any season in which the team won 10 or more games (including bowl)
BONUS:
- $1,000,000 for every win over seven. So additional million at 8 wins, 9 wins, 10 wins, 11 wins. That would total $9 million at 11 wins. Seems about right.
- $1,500,000 for every win over 11. So additional 1.5 million at 12 wins, 13 wins, 14 wins, and 15 wins. That would total $6 million additional bonus and a total of $15 million.
CHAMPIONSHIP BONUSES:
- $2 million bonus to win the SEC Championship
- $3 million bonus to win the National Championship
So, if a coach ran the table and won 15 games, the SEC and the National Championship, he would receive a GRAND TOTAL of: $20,000,000
For those of you in the decision making process, NOT A SINGLE AGGIE FAN WOULD DISAGREE WITH PAYING A COACH $20,000,000 TO WIN US A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
We are paying half that right now for far less than half the performance.
If you'd like to discuss this, send me a message; I will consult for free.
