Dealing with Kids & Divorce

Ok, so my parents were divorced and it was a completely different time (80's).

My wife & I are now divorced, having said that, my kids aren't close by. In fact they are in Japan (ex & I are both military). My daughters are 12 & 8 and well, what I'm looking for are ideas for fun things to do with them, via FaceTime, letters, texting, etc....

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas from their own experiences? Are there any good apps/games to download? I'll only be getting them on Christmas & Summers because of the distance, and I want to make things enjoyable beyond the "How's it going" and "How was your day" convos. When they were with me, we did a ton of things, went to the park, pool, movies, I coached their soccer teams, etc. We were very active, but now they're 14 hours ahead of me and those things aren't an option till they are with me again, so I'm looking for things to help me still have fun with them. It's the digital age, they have iphones (Yes I know they are young, but it's so they can text me easily after school) and I have an iPhone also.

Any & all advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated.
