Petrino and Durkin have a job to do. Put it on the Lobos without giving the Canes a lot to look at. So, how do we do that? I can think of a few simple ways.
1. Let our talent win out. It's what really good teams do when they play really overmatched opponents. On offense, the plays and schemes don't need to be overly complex, although should be enough to gain mismatches, which is what we want. From there, get the ball to the playmakers in space, on the run and watch. Defense? Pretty much the same. A few game here and there, but just enough design to confuse them so they don't know which part of our really talented line, backers or secondary is coming.
2. Match early intensity. This where we, and a lot of other teams, make a mistake. We come out flat. Seen it for the last 3 years. We just can't do it. We need to develop a "take no prisoners" instinct immediately. Sportsmanship is for later when we're up 42-0 early in the 3rd quarter.
3. Finish to the whistle. This is another trait of very good teams. As I've said in other posts, I watch a lot of games. As games go on, I like to watch what I deem more of the what I call the "war of wills." within. I'd never personally have the "stuff" to go through what kids go through from practice to game and so on. So, I am always impressed with who wins those "wars." I hope its always us.
Can't wait! Gig'em!!!
