This is the one thing that concerns me about next year’s baseball season. With all the great news about players coming back because they love the coach, the ONLY concern is whether there is too much like/love and not enough respect/fear. Schloss was/is a dick. No doubt. But, did any of that attitude play into how well the team performed? You have to have respect for your coach. There needs to be some “edge”, uncertainty, uncomfortableness for guys to keep wanting to perform at their best. If the coach is everyone’s best friend I fear you lose some of that and results may reflect it. I have no doubt coach is well respected but if it’s a love fest in that dugout that’s a little concerning to me. We need some hate and anger and a certain amount of uncomfortableness to go with it. Will he make them earn it? Will meritocracy still reign? Will they all feel like they need to grind everyday? I think that’s some of what made this year’s team successful. I hope it continues.
