After receiving plenty of criticism during , the Big 12 Conference unveiled a series of new tiebreaker rules today that will ensure a singular champion heading forward.

The rules are straightforward enough:

If there’s a tie between two teams, the head-to-head winner will be the Big 12 champion.

If there are three or more teams tied after the nine-game round robin, it goes through steps of tiebreakers. If the tiebreakers lessen the remaining teams to two at any point, head-to-head comes back into effect.

First, the teams’ conference records are compared. If those are the same, the teams will be progressively compared to the next best teams in the conference down the list. If this does not solve the tie, it goes to point-differential.

If there is still a three-team tie after the list of tiebreakers, there will be a drawing at the Big 12 office to decide the one champion.

If these tiebreak rules had been in effect during the 2014 season, Baylor would have been named the Big 12 champion thanks to a head-to-head win over TCU.
