I was very disappointed talking to some friends, relatives and fellow aggs concerning our chances of beating Alabama in two weeks. Most seem to be in awe of the beat down the tide put on Georgia. While I agree that Alabama, as usual, is a very strong team I would like to point out a few items for consideration.
1. Alabama shut down Georgia because the bulldogs offensive scheme, (tailback dominated run attack), is exactly the type of offense that Alabama's defensive recruiting and scheme are designed to shut down.
2. Georgia's QB and their overall passing game is not good enough at this point to succeed against a quality defensive team. In fact their entire passing game is dependent on their ability to run the ball.
3. The Georgia offensive line showed itself to be overrated at this point. Personally I believe their oline to be very good but you cannot play lesser opponents every week and then suddenly be prepared to face the best front 7 in the nation.
Here is how we win:
1. we have to have some success running the football and to do this we will have to put our QB at risk. Allen must be a factor in the running game.
2. we cannot drop passes. especially those in the end zone. We must score when the opportunity is there. To that end I hope Speedy is back. Ratley, his 2 catches last week not withstanding, drops to many key passes.
3. we must be at least plus 2 in turnovers.
4. defensively must slow down their running attack. To that end we must see continued improvement from our linebackers in moving up quickly to fill holes in the line. We won't stop them completely but we cannot give up the big run.
5. Make Jake Coker beat us with his arm. If he can do it then hats off to him but we must make him prove it.
