I'm not going to beat on specific players. That is just tacky. I am going to give my grades based position groups. Here goes...
- QBs (B) - The change had to be made. Reed is electric but still inexperienced. He still struggles to come off his first read and trusts his playmaking more than the call a lot of the time. Helps at times, hurts at others. Accuracy can still be issue but I'm seeing improvement. He just needs more weapons to throw to and more backs not hurt to keep the pressure off him. 15 just lost his confidence. It happens. Enough said.
- RBs (B+) - I wanted so much to give this group an "A" but the injuries knocked it down a peg. Not their fault, but it did bring down production. This group just plainly produced when at full complement.
- O Line (B-) - Okay, here comes our first disagreement and that's fine. But first, I have a question for y'all. Do you recall how bad our line play has been the last few years? If so, honestly compare it to most of this year. Do I think we were out-physicaled and run over in a few games? Yes I do. Happens to even the best of lines. Do I think we can be much better with another year of top flight S&C? Yes I do. We were certainly better coached. I'll take it...for now.
- WRs (C-) - My grade equates to slightly below average. Part of that is personnel and partly coaching. Coach Wiggins has the chops as a recruiter, no doubt, but his coaching acumen is a question mark. We don't have the 5 stars he had at Bama and it showed. We also had an inexperienced QB so that didn't help, either. Perhaps with better players, the coaching comes along, too. We'll see.
- TEs (C) - Pretty easy grade for me. When they were good, they were pretty darn good. When they were bad, pretty much the same. This is a position group that has to improve in this offense. It is key in the run and pass games.
- Overall Offense (B-) - Pretty much what you would expect from an 8-4 team.
