I can't sleep and I finally found a full game replay on YouTube. For some reason I have a glutton for punishment when it comes to Aggie losses. Click here for replay: LINK
QB: God awful. Couldn't even hit the 3-5 yard shallow (and open) routes Arkansas gave up all day. Rolled out of clean pockets frequently. Rarely set his feet. Still throwing ROCKETS on <10 yard throws. This ride with the Cuban Missile is going to be a wild one....
OL: Their fatty NT and #55 hurt us early and late, respectively. Foster eventually was able to neutralize the NT but Green/Jamir couldn't do shit against 55 on third downs. Overall, I thought they played better than my impressions after watching the game live. Decent amount of time and clean pockets on most plays, Calzada just refused to throw it or his happy feet and nerves made him roll out. Run blocking was fine for the most part. It's the SEC, you're going to lose some here and there but letting 55 beat two guys on the 3rd and longs was hard to watch.
RB: Did fine. Were obviously very much hindered by the play calling.
WR: ROUGH day. Catching the ball was OK. Smith still dropping some crucial ones but they definitely ain't easy. Blocking was SHIT. Absolute dog shit. Most of the frustration came with their inability to get hands on their guy on screens (which we obviously ran a fvck ton of). I'm not sure there was one screen where we blocked them well.
TE: Even rougher. Wyd was not good run blocking nor catching, but Wright was the worst I've seen trying to block. That's two games against P5 teams where Wright couldn't do shit against the man in front of him. Cupp needs to see all of his snaps now, there's no way he could possibly do worse.
DE: Frequently lost edge containment. Arky ran a lot of draws in their vacated lanes. Cleaned up in the second half with the rest of the defense, but was still gutted late in the 4th on the same draws when we needed the ball back. Clemons playing better than the 1st round pick so far this season. Leal has been disappointing so far.
DT: Peevy. Great game. MacJack. Awful game. Shemar. OK game.
LB: Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. Mostly awful. Came up clutch on the 4th and 1 though. Rest of the game, basically lost.
CB: Decent. The Burks 85 yd TD was a push off, but was an absolute DIME of a throw. Leon got bit on the PA because up to that point we were getting gutted in the run game. Chappel's PI was bullshit, he played that perfectly. Rest of the game was fine. Did well in the run support.
NB: Beast. Antonio (and Spiller) are our first round talents so far.
S: Leon. Awful. Demani. Meh. It's surprising that Demani hasn't really done much since getting that pick off Tua his freshman year. I guess he's been solid and doesn't make too many mistakes but he hasn't done anything of late that stands out. Leon reverted back to old Leon and took awful angles in the run game that allowed KJ or the RBs to bounce out and get more yardage. Also whiffed on a bunch of tackles.
Coaching: After watching this through again, it's clear to see Jimbo was forced to keeping it extremely simple for Calzada. There were MULTIPLE plays where the underneath route (drag, quick curl, quick in-out) was open, Calzada would stare RIGHT at it but still didn't throw it. It was actually incredible to watch. This actually led to a lot of our OL penalties because Calzada hung on to the ball too long or decided to roll out causing even more problems. Jimbo claims he called a bunch of RPOs late. Sure fine. No more options should be given to Calzada. It's clear he can't decipher a pre-snap defensive look, not to mention make the correct option on the RPO. Either Fisher call a run only play, or run the RPO with a two back set. It was a crime to see how we utilized both 28 & 6.
