Made my first trip to Sam Rayburn since the big flood. Heard a marina Owners version of what happened. Corps let the lake go way above normal level to avoid flooding those downstream in the river bottoms who had flood insurance (federal). Those on the lake are not insured for rising water. His floating docks broke loose when they got near the top of pilings and caused about 1.5 million in damage, not to mention lost business. In addition there is a 50 to 100' strip of dead trees around the lake (depending on slope of shore) that will be falling into the lake and damaging boats for years to come. I would guess the total damage is in the hundreds of millions. Marina owner and lawyer are trying to decide whether to sue insurance company, corps or both.
I was just wondering if this guys version fits the corps version of what happened. Seems like people who build in a flood plain deserve high water more than those on a lake front who cannot get federal flood insurance. Possibly just one branch of the federal government helping out another.
