Anyone here use Texas Tuition Promise Fund?

You basically get date rates for Texas universities in "units". A&M tuition is roughly 100-120 units per year and the units range from 90-115 bucks each right now. They have a new price set each year, but once you buy them they're locked in.

Just curious as to the major drawbacks of this system vs a typical 529 plan.

There is a value equivalency option if your child goes out of state. You get what you put in plus whatever value was gained (or minus what was lost.) Current rate of return is roughly 8%.
