I know a lot posters will go with Sam Adams, and understandably so. But for me, I'll go with Ray Childress. I am biased because I did attend his games when I was in college. To me, he was virtually unblockable at times, which was crazy because offenses keyed on him so much. I though he could have had an even better pro career, except in those days offensive linemen could basically destroy a defensive lineman's career with low blocks. My dad told me that's how the rest of the league got rid of Dick Butkus.
My earliest memory of football was seeing Butkus on Soldier Field kick an offensive linemen in the head 3 times for hitting him in the back of the knees. The official didn't throw the flag until after Butkus tried to kick him when he intervened. The reporters asked the referee why he didn't throw the flag the first time. He simply replied, "If I threw a flag every time I saw Butkus commit a penalty, the games would be 5 hours long...."
