COLLEGE STATION – The Aggie men’s basketball team is West Coast-bound as it opens play at the 2016 Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif., on Thursday at 1 p.m. (CT) vs CSUN (Cal State Fullerton).

Thursday's game will be streamed on ESPN3 with Steve Quis, Adrian Branch and Jeff Goodman calling all the action. Fans can also follow the action with radio coverage on the Aggie Sports Network, which can be heard locally in the Bryan/College Station area on KWBC 1550 AM.

All games at the Wooden Classic will have coverage on the ESPN family of networks, but for specific channel listings for all of Texas A&M’s contest in the Golden State, fans are encouraged to visitwww.12thMan.com/TV.

Joining the Aggies and the Matadors at this year’s Wooden Legacy are Dayton, Nebraska, New Mexico, Portland, UCLA and Virginia Tech. The Aggies will face either New Mexico or Virginia Tech on Friday at Titan Gym during the event’s second round.

The tournament’s venue will switch to the Honda Center in Anaheim for the event’s final day on Sunday.

Nebraska, New Mexico, Portland and Virginia Tech will enter opening Wooden action Thursday with 3-0 records while Dayton and Texas A&M have each won two of three games. CSUN is 2-2 with one of the setbacks to UCLA, which is a perfect 4-0 this season.

Thanksgiving tournaments have been good to the Aggies recently with national exposure coming from impressive performances at the events. Last season, Texas A&M grabbed headlines across the country by defeating arch-rival Texas and No. 10 Gonzaga before falling to Syracuse in the title game of the Battle4Atlantis. In 2014-15, the Aggies won two of three games against a solid field of teams at the Puerto Rico Tip-off.

OPENING TIPS

• The Aggies head to the Pacific coast for Thanksgiving this season, taking part in the 2016 Wooden Legacy Nov. 24-27 ... The first two days of the event (Nov. 24-25) will take place at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Gym before the final day of competition on Nov. 27 will be played at Anaheim's Honda Center.

• Texas A&M leads off the tournament by facing CSUN (Cal State Northridge) at 1 p.m. (CT) on Thursday ... The Aggies and Matadors have never faced each other on the hardwood, but a familiar face will be on the opposing bench from A&M as junior center Dylan Johns, who played two seasons at Texas A&M (2013-15), will suit up for CSUN.

• Through three games this season balanced scoring has been an A&M calling card as sophomore Tyler Davis paces the squad in scoring (13.7 points per game) through three games to lead a group of five Aggies who average at least 8.3 points per contest — DJ Hogg (12.0 ppg), Robert Williams (9.0 ppg), Tonny Trocha-Morelos (8.7 ppg) and Admon Gilder (8.3 ppg).

Hogg, meanwhile, is coming into his own as he sees a bigger role on the court this season and is coming off one of his best games as an Aggie ... The 6-foot-9 forward led all scorers with 17 points during last Friday's contest against USC, connecting on a career best-tying five 3-point baskets.

GOING BACK TO CALI

You don't have to look back far in the archives to see the Aggies' most recent visit to Southern California and the Honda Center. Texas A&M's impressive run last season in the 2016 NCAA Tournament came to a close inside the facility as the third-seeded Aggies fell to No. 2 seed Oklahoma in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA West Regional on March 24.

Texas A&M has played seven games in Anaheim previously (3-4), including four at the Honda Center (1-3). The Aggies have never played at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Gym where the first two games of the event are slated to take place.

SERIES HISTORY VS USUN (FIRST MEETING)

• Thursday will be the first matchup between Texas A&M and CSUN on the hardwood.

• Texas A&M will face a familiar foe as the Matadors' roster features junior center Dylan Johns, Who played in 40 games for the Aggies from 2013-15.

REBUILDING THE ROSTER MEANS YOUTHFUL AGGIES

• Among all schools in high-major conferences, Texas A&M is only one of four schools nationally to lose three all-conference players from last season (excludes honorable mention selections).

-Arizona [Pac-12] - Ryan Anderson (1st Team), Kaleb Tarczewski (2nd Team) & Gabe York (2nd Team)

-Michigan State [Big 10] -Denzel Valentine (1st Team), Bryn Forbes (2nd Team), Matt Costello (3rd Team)

-Oklahoma [Big 12] - Buddy Hield (1st Team), Isaiah Cousins (3rd Team), Ryan Spangler (3rd Team)

-Texas A&M [SEC] - Jalen Jones (1st Team), Alex Caruso (2nd Team) & Danuel House (2nd Team)

• Texas A&M averages 1.27 years of experience per player, the 302nd most in all of college basketball (351 teams) and 55th among high-major conferences (75 teams) , according to kenpom.com.

• By comparison, the 2015-16 Aggies ranked 143rd at 1.82 years’ experience per player.

TEXAS A&M GERMANY-BOUND FOR 2017 STATE FARM ARMED FORCES CLASSIC

In a move that honors Texas A&M University's strong traditions and connection with the United States military, the Aggie men's basketball team has been selected to take part in the 2017 State Farm Armed Forces Classic, facing West Virginia on Nov. 10, 2017, at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

The Armed Forces Classic – a series of Division I men's college basketball games that are televised from United States military bases around Veteran's Day as a morale event for service members – is scheduled to continue for the foreseeable future. The Armed Forces Classic is owned and operated by ESPN Events, a division of ESPN.

UP NEXT AFTER THE WOODEN LEGACY

Following the conclusion of the 2016 Wooden Legacy, the Aggies will return to College Station to begin preparing for their next contest which will come Dec. 5 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m.
