I was out at fabulous Delmar Stadium last night to see Elkins and Lamar. Unfortunately it was not the same level of excitement from this weekend's game as the first weekend. Elkins led Lamar 13-7 at the half and closed them out 20-7.
Some of the key players I went to get a look at were:
2016 Elkins DT Ross Blacklock - Blacklock looked the part, he is big and mean and nasty. He did a good job all night as they moved him from side to side (Elkins runs a 3-4) and let him get up field. He is definitely a DT all the way at the next level. He got a little worn out towards the end but they were using him non-stop the entire night, something he won;t experience at the collegiate level. I chatted very briefly with him after the win and he said nothing has changed, he still is basically looking at A&M and LSU with TCU, Tech and Missouri still rounding out the top 5. Looks like he will wait and take officials after the season but is trying to make some games before then with LSU/Auburn being one he is working on. In the end, still the same on this one, A&M vs LSU.
2018 Elkins OT Luke Matthews - He is certainly getting bigger and you can see the potential and what is coming down the road. He is still a young player and has areas to work on but again, you see the flashes already.
2017 Elkins OLB Kenneth Murray - We have him listed (for now) as a safety but a safety he is not. He is still right about 6-2 but is probably 220 pounds. He plays the "buck" position for Elkins which is their roving pass rushing linebacker. He has not heard a ton from A&M but will be worth watching to see how he develops throughout the season and summer camps. He has talent, and a couple of early offers from Kansas and Houston) but I'm not sure if he is an SEC type player yet.
I have photos pf all of these guys and should have them up in a bit.
