Mark did a great job breaking it down, but the numbers just still seem so surreal. I bet that's how it feels to Coach Elko who had orchestrate that mass turnover. So, how do the all the pieces fit together to make us a success and quickly? Well, as you may have guessed I have a couple thoughts...
  • Gamechangers - The first and last thought of any championship level type team is do you have enough impact players to tilt any game your way when needed. Gotta have'em! No ifs, ands or buts! There are particular positions which I feel can influence the outcome more, here's my list...
    • QB - Has his hands on the ball more than anyone. Nuff said. If we get the play out of Weigman I think we can, those toss-up or underdog games turn into wins and we arrive a lot faster.
    • RB - Coach Klein is going to run the dang ball! The question is who going to carry it the most. I really like Moss but he needs to stay on the field. Owens needs to get stronger and read his blocks better. I think both will break out and we get the running attack we sorely need!
    • WR/TE - Yep, I'm going to lump them together. It's my post. I don't believe we have the "guy" at WR or TE, but that doesn't mean I don't believe our core guys can't impact the game. Certainly, Moose, Thomas and Walker all have the ability to tilt the field in our favor. I think the transfers will, too. At TE, Green flashed well before getting hurt and the transfers look capable. I'm calling a combination impact here.
    • X Factors - Like Coach Elko, I'm not going to put too much on Bussey's plate, but it's hard to ignore the video of him returning kicks and such. I'm sure there will be other guys who will show up doing that kind of stuff in the Spring. I just think Bussey is special is going to be special at some point this year! Sorry for the pressure, kid!
  • Coaching/Development - In the presser Coach Elko alluded to this is what he was looking forward to the most next and he gave a preview of what he would be working on with the team.
    • Building Character - I thought this was extremely telling about the kind of person and coach he is that he would mention this first. I was very impressed.
    • Organizing the Position Groups and Team Meetings - I know it may sound like dry coach speak to a lot of you but it speaks organization and detail to me.
    • Running the Players through the Agility Drills - It was funny when he was asked about the Spring Game and he said, "Heck, we've not even had a Spring Practice!" You can tell how anxious how he is about find out who and what he's got here at A&M, even drills. I really do believe there is a new Sheriff in Town and His Name is Mike Elko!
Gig'em!!!
