I am having a hard time following the narrative that the Ags were screwed in their seeding, so I am hoping someone can explain how not getting a 5 or 6 seed makes a difference.

The all time seed-vs-seed records:

SEED VS. SEED.W-LPCT.
#1 vs. #16147-1.993
#2 vs. #15138-10.932
#3 vs. #14126-22.851
#4 vs. #13117-31.791
#5 vs. #1295-53.642
#6 vs. #1191-57.615
#7 vs. #10*89-58.605
#8 vs. #972-76.486
*The 2021 first round match-up between 7 seed Oregon and 10 seed VCU was considered a no contest due to COVID-19 protocols.

From this chart taken from the NCAA website, 5-seeds are six games better over 148-ish games. That, too me, is a negligible advantage in winning expectations.
  1. 5-seeds are six games better in the first round, over 128 games. 5v12 and 7v10
  2. 5-seeds are nineteen games better in the second round. 5v4 and 7v2
  3. 5-seeds win the same number of games as 7-seeds in the Sweet Sixteen (10), despite playing almost twice as many games. (50 v 28)
  4. Both 5-seeds and 7-seven seeds have played the same number of Elite Eight games (10). 5 seeds winning seven and 7-seeds winning three.
  5. 5-seeds are better at the Final Four winning three games out of seven. 7-seeds are 1 and 2.
  6. In the championship game a 5-seed has never cut down the nets, but UConn, as a 7-seed, won it all in 2014.
I have no issue with complaining about who got in and who's playing in the NIT. I have no issue with complaining about the Ags being made an example. If you feel the Ags deserved a 4 seed, then that's another argument all together.

I do have trouble understanding the real difference between the 5, 6, and 7 seeds. The beautiful part is that we get to play the higher seeds and determine who's better on the court.

If your goal is to just make the Sweet Sixteen, then sure the 5 seed has an advantage. I don't think that's Buzz's or the team's goal.

The basket is 10' from the floor, on both ends. Make the shots. Hit your free throws. Anyone can beat anyone.
