Each year, Gallup Healthways releases a Well-Being Index which rates every state in the United States according to its well-being. This results in lists that include the happiest states in the nation and those that are considered the most miserable.
This is determined by interviewing over 176,000 adults in the U.S. from January to December. The test involves five elements – motivation or purpose, positive social relationships, financial satisfaction, a feeling of safety, pride in the community, and caring for your physical health.
1. West Virginia
2. Kentucky
3. Indiana
4. Ohio
5. Mississippi
6. Alabama
7. Tennessee
8. Arkansas
9. Michigan
10. Missouri
